We are seeking an experienced and passionate Assistant Professor, Teaching, Special Education to join our team at Wayne State University. Job Summary:
We are looking for an Assistant Professor, Teaching, Special Education to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in special education, collaborate with program faculty, and serve as the program coordinator. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to inclusive education, a minimum of three years of U.S. teaching experience in PK-12 classrooms with special education students, and experience working in urban, racially and linguistically diverse, and inclusive settings.
Responsibilities:
- Teach SED undergraduate and graduate courses, for PK - 12 and adult educators on campus, online, and via hybrid formats
- Collaborate with program faculty and the Assistant Dean to schedule SED courses
- Serve as the SED cohort coordinator
- Engage in continuous improvement and program assessment
- Regularly communicate with and grow partnerships with school districts to facilitate enrollment in the SED endorsement, cohort teacher initiatives, and/or other certification opportunities
- Mentor and help recruit and retain teacher certification candidates
- Participate in Special Education program meetings and participate in TED and College of Education meetings
Requirements:
- Earned doctoral degree in Special Education, or Teacher Education or Curriculum & Instruction with specializations in Special Education, Inclusive Education, Disability Studies, or related field
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusive education and inclusive teaching
- Minimum of three years of U.S. teaching experience in PK-12 classrooms with special education students who have moderate to significant support needs
- University-level teaching experience, including on-campus, online, and/or hybrid formats
- Ability to work in a collegial manner with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students
- Commitment to supporting/promoting diversity, inclusion, equity, and social justice
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supervising candidates in their clinical or practicum experiences in SED segregated or inclusive settings
- Experience working in urban, racially and linguistically diverse, and inclusive settings
- Experience in program coordination
- Experience in curriculum development
- Experience in recruitment and/or retention of students
