We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Overnight Helpline Coordinator to join our Crisis Services team at Samaritans, Inc., a leading suicide prevention organization in Massachusetts. As a Helpline Coordinator, you will play a vital role in providing emotional support to individuals in crisis, working to alleviate despair, isolation, and suicidal feelings in our community.

As a remote team member, you will be part of a dynamic and growing organization that provides 24/7 crisis services, education, and support to those affected by suicide and mental health concerns. Our team is dedicated to creating a safe and non-judgmental space for individuals to share their feelings and receive support.

About the Role:

The Overnight Helpline Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring 24/7 coverage on our helpline, responding to calls, texts, and chats from individuals seeking emotional support. You will provide compassionate and non-judgmental listening, adhering to our Befriending model, and work collaboratively with our team to provide exceptional support to our callers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to crisis calls, texts, and chats from individuals seeking emotional support
  • Adhere to performance measures and submit call reports after each call
  • Provide on-site support to volunteers in the event of an emergency
  • Participate in staff meetings and supervision, schedule permitting

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience preferred
  • Previous experience as a volunteer or in a crisis helpline setting a plus
  • Knowledge of suicide prevention and mental health concerns
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote setting
  • Strong communication and active listening skills
