Job Summary:

The Occupational Communications Specialist will work closely with individuals who are Deaf, DeafBlind, or Hard of Hearing to provide personalized job placement services, training, and ongoing support to ensure their success in competitive employment. This role requires a strong ability to communicate in American Sign Language (ASL) and a deep understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities faced by individuals with disabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized job placement services, including resume building, interview preparation, and job coaching
  • Cultivate relationships with employers and businesses to identify job opportunities and promote inclusive hiring practices
  • Equip individuals with the skills and strategies they need to succeed in their new roles, including training on job expectations, behaviors, and production standards
  • Advocate on behalf of individuals with employers to ensure reasonable accommodations and support
  • Maintain a caseload of 10-15 individuals, tracking and documenting services provided and outcomes achieved

Requirements:

  • Advanced-level proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Ability to pass a Department of Human Services background check (Rule 11)
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to meet with individuals and employers
  • High-speed internet connection and ability to provide virtual support as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of job training practices for individuals who are Deaf, DeafBlind, or Hard of Hearing
  • Familiarity with supported employment systems and community-based training program models
  • Degree in human services, vocational rehabilitation, or a related field
