Summary: The Domain Owner – Epic Professional Billing (PB) serves as the subject matter expert and strategic leader responsible for the design, optimization, and ongoing oversight of all Epic PB-related functionality across the enterprise. This role bridges operations, revenue cycle, and technology by ensuring that Epic Professional Billing supports compliant, efficient, and high-performing workflows for physician and provider billing.
Working closely with operational leaders, clinical departments, IT teams, compliance, and finance, the Domain Owner drives initiatives to improve revenue integrity, charge capture, billing accuracy, and provider engagement, while ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and organizational goals
Responsibilities:
Epic Professional Billing:
• Own and manage the Epic PB domain including build oversight, enhancement planning, testing, and upgrade readiness.
• Serve as the primary liaison between operational stakeholders and the IT Epic PB build team.
• Translate business needs into Epic PB system functionality, ensuring solutions are scalable, efficient, and compliant.
• Ensure claim edits, charge router logic, fee schedules, and work queues are optimized to support accurate and timely billing.
Strategic and Operational Collaboration;
• Partner with revenue cycle leaders to improve charge capture, reduce denials, and enhance reimbursement.
• Engage with clinical and practice leadership to address documentation and billing best practices.
• Lead domain-specific governance processes to prioritize requests and manage enhancements.
• Collaborate with IT teams to ensure data integrity, system performance, and integration with other Epic modules (e.g., Cadence, HIM, Resolute HB).
Provider and End-User Support:
• Assist in the development and delivery of provider education related to professional billing workflows.
• Work closely with training teams to develop training materials and competency assessments.
• Address provider and end-user concerns related to billing workflows, documentation, and system usability.
Qualifications
• * Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, Information Systems, or related field (Master’s preferred).
• 5+ years of experience in professional billing or revenue cycle operations within a healthcare system.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with Epic Professional Billing (PB).
• Current Epic PB Certification or Proficiency (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
• Strong understanding of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, modifiers, and professional billing compliance.
• Experience with Epic tools such as Charge Router, Workqueues, Charge Review, Claim Edit, and SBO (Single Billing Office) if applicable.
• Proven track record in cross-functional project leadership, system optimization, and revenue improvement.
