In addition, MDE provides administrative support and supervision for the Michigan School for the Deaf and the Library of Michigan. MDE is responsible for state education leadership in a local control state and works to implement state and federal education laws, disburse state and federal resources, license educators, develop state summative assessments and accountability systems, create state academic standards, and coordinate school health and nutrition programs. In addition, in developing and promoting the state's Top 10 Strategic Education Plan, MDE works with partner education entities and stakeholders to improve public education for children across the state. The P-20 System and Student Transitions Division was established to align high-quality early childhood to postsecondary attainment activities within the department and serves approximately 500,000 children and families daily. In coordination with internal and external partners, the P-20 System and Student Transitions Division leads and strengthens an accessible, equitable, and aligned continuum of quality services and supports for all learners and families. This division includes the Office of Great Start, created by Executive Order 2011-8, which is comprised of the Offices of Early Childhood Development and Family Education, Preschool and Out-of-School Time Learning, Child Development and Care, and Head Start State Collaboration. The division also includes the Office of Career and Technical Education and the Office of Special Education (which oversees the Michigan School for the Deaf, the Low Incidence Outreach program, and Camp Tuhsmeheta). Position Summary- This position functions as the recognize resource for the Carl D. Perkins Grant application process. This position will work to ensure the regional grant applications meet appropriate federal requirements and leads the Perkins funding formula and Civil Rights Compliance Review targeting process.
