Capital Area Tax Consultants LLC is currently searching for a part-time Tax Preparer on a contract basis. About the Firm Capital Area Tax Consultants is a tax and accounting firm, based in Washington, D.C., that specializes in helping high net worth individuals and families across the United States navigate the complexities of the tax code. The firm operates as a subsidiary of Capital Area Planning Group LLC and offers in-house tax preparation services to its wealth management clients as a separate, standalone service. About the Position A qualified tax preparer candidate will embrace customer relationship management (CRM) software and tax preparation technology, prefer a collaborative working environment, and appreciate a high level of autonomy and decision-making. Such a candidate will strive to provide outstanding service and support to the firm’s clients on an ongoing basis. The role is intended to be performed on a remote basis. However, the candidate will be provided with the opportunity to work from our office in the Union Market area of Washington, D.C. if they prefer. It is expected that the candidate be available to work up to 20 hours per week during the peak season (February 1st—April 15th) and 10 hours per week any other time. In addition to having 5 or more years of experience as a tax preparer and a thorough understanding of the current tax laws and procedures governed by the Internal Revenue Code, the ideal candidate will have 5 or more years of experience performing administrative, operations, and client service-related duties within the accounting industry. Responsibilities • Accurately complete federal, state, and local tax filings (Forms 1040, 1120, 1120S, 1065, 1041, etc.) for clients, often in collaboration with our financial planning team. • Review and interpret W-2s, 1099s, K-1s, investment account statements, and other financial documentation to ensure accurate and complete reporting. • Ensure all documentation is properly stored, accessible, and compliant with internal and regulatory recordkeeping standards. • Work with our financial planning team to identify tax-saving opportunities for clients, including Roth conversions, tax-loss harvesting, charitable strategies, and entity structuring. • Serve as a primary point of contact for tax-related inquiries (via phone or email), ensuring clients understand their returns and the implications of planning strategies. • Assist in responding to tax authority correspondence, audits, and client inquiries related to filed returns or tax positions. • Other similar duties as assigned Job Type: Contract Pay: From $30.00 per hour Expected hours: 10 – 20 per week Application Question(s): • Are you located in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States?
