Who We’re Looking For
We’re searching for adaptable, high-energy educators who thrive in learner-centered, project-based environments. Our families come to us because they’re looking for something beyond worksheets, textbooks, or lecture-style classes.
Educators may teach any class they are comfortable with—whether that’s History, Science, Spanish, Sports Psychology, ELA, Math, or other electives.
Right now, we are in highest need of History, Middle School Science, Spanish (especially Spanish 2), and Sports Psychology.
This is a great fit if you:
• Are confident teaching one or more subjects across middle and high school (upper elementary experience is also valuable).
• Love sparking curiosity through discussion, projects, and real-world connections.
• See yourself as more of a facilitator and guide than a lecturer.
• Can balance academic rigor with creativity, play, and flexibility.
• Are open to teaching at times that fit a global schedule: weekdays, weeknights, and weekends, day or evening.
• Are willing to commit to teaching your classes consistently throughout the year.
• Want to grow into a long-term role in an innovative microschool model.
Our Teaching Philosophy
We are a Socratic, discussion-driven microschool. We believe education should be rigorous and joyful, serious andcreative. Every class is designed to be engaging, interactive, and thought-provoking.
What we don’t do:
• Long lectures with passive listening
• “PDF teaching” where learners click through slides or packets
• Surface-level lessons with no real depth or conversation
What we expect:
• Active, learner-driven discussions
• Socratic questioning that builds critical thinking
• Projects and activities that go beyond memorization
• Flexible teaching that adapts to learner needs in real time
Some families want grades, others prefer narrative feedback, and others simply want enrichment. We meet each learner where they are, which requires teachers who are responsive, creative, and learner-focused.
What Teaching Looks Like Here
This is not a scripted, one-size-fits-all program. We provide class skeletons, content outlines, and a resource library, but the way you bring them alive is up to you.
• Most sessions are 30–45 minutes, once or twice a week
• Max of 10 learners per class for meaningful interaction
• Sessions are project-based, discussion-driven, and interactive—not lectures
• Educators may teach one subject or several, depending on their interests and qualifications
• Highest need areas right now: History, Middle School Science, Spanish 2, and Sports Psychology
• Classes are offered year-round, so consistency and commitment are required
• Enrollment is not guaranteed. Retention depends on the teacher’s ability to engage learners and families.
Team Culture
Even though this is a 1099 contractor position, we’re building more than a collection of classes—we’re building a mission-driven educator community.
We’re not looking for teachers who just log on, teach, and disappear. We’re looking for collaborators. Our culture includes:
• A private Slack space for updates, collaboration, and team support
• Ongoing professional development and idea-sharing
• Recognition for great teaching and innovation
• Respectful, transparent communication with families and each other
Responsiveness is key—you don’t need to be on call 24/7, but messages should be answered within 24 hours. Clear communication builds trust with families and teammates alike.
Responsibilities
• Lead engaging, discussion-based, project-driven virtual classes
• Provide constructive, personalized feedback after sessions
• Post homework and submit progress reports
• Communicate openly with families in ways that fit their needs
• Create inclusive, respectful learning spaces
• Evolve alongside our offerings and learner community
• Commit to showing up for your classes consistently for the full year
Qualifications
• Must hold a valid, current U.S. teaching certification (expired or inactive certifications will not be accepted)
• U.S.-based, eligible to work as a 1099 contractor
• Experienced with online teaching platforms and digital tools
• Comfortable with change, feedback, and ongoing growth
• Patient, flexible, kind, and committed to delivering real educational value
Pay & Scheduling
Pay is project-based and tied to enrollment size. Classes run even with one learner, and group size may vary week to week.
Group Class Rates (30-minute sessions):
• $10 for 1 learner
• $15 for 2 learners
• $20 for 3 learners
• … up to $55 for 10 learners
45-minute sessions: +$5
1:1 sessions: $20 for 30 min / $40 for 60 min
This is a 1099 contractor position. Pay covers live teaching, prep, communication, and feedback. No marketing is required—learners are provided.
We are a global community, and classes are available to be taught weekdays, weeknights, and weekends, both day and evening. You don’t need to cover every slot, but this is not limited to traditional school hours.
Important: There is no guarantee of learners or class size. Enrollment varies, and retention is the responsibility of the teacher. This is not a full-time position—it should be considered a supplemental opportunity.
Our Hiring Process
• Application – Answer all required questions. Incomplete submissions will not move forward.
• Video Intro – Once invited, submit a short introduction.
• Mock Class – Teach a sample lesson with a real learner, then submit written feedback.
• Onboarding – Background check, ID verification, contract, bio, and training.
• Final Setup – Tech check and policy review.
About Us
Kindred Scholars Academy runs both on Outschool and on our private platform. We offer personalized education in core academics and enrichment, rooted in curiosity, creativity, and family-centered flexibility.
We’re building a space where learners are taken seriously, discussions matter, and teachers have the freedom to teach with intention, creativity, and heart.
If you’re passionate about reimagining what education can look like, we’d love to meet you.
Job Types: Part-time, Contract
Pay: $20.00 - $110.00 per hour
Application Question(s):
• There is no guarantee of learners or class size. Retention and engagement are the responsibility of the teacher. Do you understand and accept this?
• This is a supplemental opportunity, not a full-time job. Do you agree to this?
• Classes run year-round. Are you willing to commit to teaching consistently throughout the year if hired?
• Which online teaching platforms have you previously held accounts on? (Examples: Outschool, Recess, Varsity Tutors, Wyzant, etc.)
• All educators are responsible for posting homework and submitting progress reports. We provide resources to streamline these tasks. Do you agree to these requirements?

• Our classes are project-based, discussion-driven, and interactive. What excites you about teaching in this kind of non-traditional, learner-centered model?
• Our classes are discussion-driven, not lectures. Imagine you are teaching a group of 6 middle schoolers. How would you structure a 30-minute session so that students are actively engaged in conversation rather than passively listening?
• Give an example of a project or activity you would use to teach a concept in your subject (History, Science, Spanish, etc.). How would you make it interactive and learner-centered?
• Our model requires teachers to keep learners engaged over time (retention depends on you). What strategies would you use to make sure students stay excited to come back week after week?
• Our families stay enrolled when they feel connected and informed. What specific steps would you take to keep parents involved, updated, and confident in your class?
• The teaching platform is secular, inclusive and diverse. You will provide your preferred Name/Pronouns. Are you comfortable with providing a safe space for all students?
• Project-based pay is determined by class size for each 30-minute session. Classes run even if only one learner is enrolled, and class sizes may vary from week to week.
