Role and Responsibilities • Function as a cashier and/or stocker and act in a lead capacity in the absence of the store manager or assistant store manager. • Unload trucks and receive, open, and unpack cartons and totes according to company processes. • Stock and rotate merchandise on shelves and build merchandise displays. • Assist in setting and maintaining plan-o-grams and store programs. • Restock returned and recovered merchandise. • Assist customers by locating merchandise and providing exemplary customer service. • Bail cardboard, take out trash, dust and mop store floors, and clean restrooms and stockrooms. • Operate cash register and flatbed scanner to itemize and total purchases; collect payments and make change. • Maintain register countertops, bags, and implement register countertop plan-o-grams. • Clean the front end of the store and help set up sidewalk displays. • Help maintain a clean, well-organized, safe, and secure working and shopping environment. • Open and/or close the store under the direction of the area manager. • In the absence of store or assistant store manager, authorize and sign refunds and overrides, count registers, and make bank deposits. • Monitor cash levels and complete drawer pulls; assist in cashier accountability and adherence to security practices. • Monitor cameras for unusual activity, if applicable, and supply cashiers with change as needed. • Complete all required paperwork and documentation as assigned. Required Skills and Experience • Ability to perform mathematical functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages. • Knowledge of cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposit control. • Ability to operate IBM cash register functions. • Understanding of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices. • Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. • Understanding of safety policies and the ability to read and follow plan-o-grams and merchandise presentation guidance. • High school diploma or equivalent and six months of supervisory or related experience/training preferred. Preferred Qualifications • Previous retail or customer service experience. • Ability to lead and support team members in a retail environment.
