The Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Forest Management Technician - Recreation Technician to join our team in Forest Grove, Tillamook, or Astoria. Job Overview
This is a seasonal, remote-friendly position that offers a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and cleaning recreation facilities, providing exceptional customer service, and working independently with minimal supervision. The position requires a strong and diverse skillset, including experience in parks and recreation administration, outdoor recreation management, or a related field.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and clean recreation facilities, such as campgrounds, day use areas, picnic areas, and trailheads
- Provide exceptional customer service in a public setting, responding to visitor inquiries and resolving issues
- Set daily goals and prioritize tasks to accomplish assigned duties independently with general direction and minimal supervision
- Utilize computer skills to work effectively with various programs, including Microsoft Office, Excel, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Work in a physically demanding environment, walking on rough terrain, stooping or bending around structures or equipment, and climbing ladders or equipment
- Operate a state vehicle for official State business, requiring a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Qualifications and Requirements
Essential Qualifications
- Eighteen months of experience working in the field of Parks and Recreation Administration, Outdoor Recreation Management, Recreation Planning, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or Forestry Education and Interpretation
- Associate Degree in Parks and Recreation Administration, Outdoor Recreation Management, Recreation Planning, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Studies, Forestry, or a related natural resource field of study
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a seasonal or temporary capacity
- Knowledge of forest management practices and recreation management principles
- Proficiency in GIS and other relevant software applications
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
