Experienced Media Specialist for Elementary Education – Library Management and Instructional Support Specialist

Job Overview
The Media Specialist position is a full-time role that requires a highly skilled and dedicated individual to manage the school library, support teachers and students, and promote a love of reading and learning. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging library materials, instructing teachers and students on the use of the system, and arranging for interlibrary loans. You will also work closely with teachers to plan assignments that incorporate media center resources and promote independent reference work and skill development in students.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and supervise the school library, ensuring a welcoming and supportive environment for students and staff
 - Evaluate, select, and requisition new media materials, including books, digital resources, and other instructional materials
 - Assist teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials, and make media center materials available to supplement the instructional program
 - Maintain a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all library materials, and instruct teachers and students on the use of the system
 - Arrange for interlibrary loans of materials of interest or use to teachers and students
 - Work with teachers to plan assignments that incorporate media center resources and promote independent reference work and skill development in students
 - Promote appropriate conduct of students using media center facilities, and help students develop habits of independent reference work and skill in using reference materials
 - Arrange frequently changing book-related displays and exhibits likely to interest media center patrons
 - Supervise media clerk in the performance of duties, and participate actively in library and other educational and professional associations on the local, regional, state, and national level
 
Qualifications and Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- South Carolina certification as a Media Specialist, or be eligible for alternative certification as approved by the South Carolina Department of Education
 - A strong understanding of library management principles, practices, and procedures
 - Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
 - Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and other staff members
 - Strong technical skills, including proficiency in library management software and other digital tools
 
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in an elementary school library or similar setting
 - Knowledge of curriculum design and instructional strategies
 - Experience with collection development, cataloging, and classification
 - Familiarity with educational technology and digital resources
 - Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with experience managing staff or volunteers
