Job Summary

The Customs Brokerage Specialist will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, preparing and submitting necessary documentation to comply with customs regulations, resolving issues that may delay shipments, and maintaining relationships with various stakeholders to meet customer service requirements. This role requires a strong and diverse skillset in relevant areas, including customs regulations, logistics, and customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Customer Service: Provide consistent and exceptional customer service to ensure the timely release and movement of freight and cargo.
  • Documentation and Compliance: Prepare, analyze, and submit documentation to U.S. Customs and other parties to comply with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Problem-Solving: Anticipate, identify, and resolve problems that could delay freight movement, and work with customers and stakeholders to find solutions.
  • Relationship Building: Maintain relationships with correspondent brokers and service providers to exceed customer service requirements.
  • Data Management: Perform accurate data input and corrections into computer files, and produce operational trend reports to support account management activities.
  • Account Management: Support Account Administrators with account management activities, and perform entry reconciliation as needed.
  • Communication: Access external client systems as necessary, and correspond with business partners through various mediums.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience: 1 year of brokerage or transportation experience and/or customer service experience required.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and office equipment (phone, fax, photocopier, printer, scanner).
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Problem-solving skills and ability to handle high volume and time-sensitive work.
  • Attention to Detail: Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of Customs Regulations: Knowledge of HTS classification and familiarity with the harmonized tariff system.
  • U.S. Customs Regulations: Knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations and federal requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • US Brokerage Experience: 1 year of US Brokerage experience preferred, 2 years preferred.
