Key Responsibilities: Inspiring Students and Supporting Staff
As a Special Education Substitute Teacher, you'll play a vital role in:
- Following and teaching lesson plans provided by the regular teacher, ensuring continuity and quality education
 - Instructing based on subject and grade-specific curriculum, catering to the diverse needs of students
 - Monitoring and assessing student achievements and outcomes, providing valuable insights for future instruction
 - Exercising classroom and behavior management skills, creating a safe and inclusive learning environment
 - Sharing your specialized knowledge to coach staff and support special education students, promoting a collaborative approach to education
 
Essential Qualifications: Demonstrating Expertise and Commitment
To excel in this role, you'll need to provide:
- An active Teaching license with a special education generalist (5-21) and/or special education specialist (5-21) endorsement(s)
 - Substitute Authorization (must have or be in the process of obtaining if your license is expired)
 - Three References, including one from a previous direct supervisor, to demonstrate your teaching prowess and character
 - A Background Check for Scoot Education (you'll be reimbursed for the cost on your first paycheck!) and the Colorado Department of Education (to receive your Substitute Authorization)
 
Preferred Qualifications: Enhancing Your Application
While not mandatory, the following qualifications will enhance your application:
- Experience working with students with diverse needs, including those with autism, mild moderate, severe, and multi-intensive requirements
 - Knowledge of Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs), Functional Behavior Assessments, and Behavior Intervention plans
 - Background in teaching subjects such as Math, Science, STEM, English, ELA, History, Social Studies, PE, Music, Art, Drama, and Theater Studies
