Job Summary

As a Financial Counselor on our team, you will play a vital role in delivering personalized financial guidance to clients experiencing acute financial distress caused by problem gambling. With an estimated 9 million American adults suffering from gambling addiction, your expertise will be instrumental in helping clients gain clarity about their financial situation and develop a tailored financial recovery plan that restores hope. By collaborating with mental health professionals, you will ensure that clients' financial plans align with their recovery goals, ultimately supporting their journey towards a more stable and secure future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Counseling: Provide one-on-one financial counseling to clients affected by gambling addiction, helping them create actionable financial recovery plans that address their unique needs and challenges.
  • Financial Assessment and Planning: Assess each client's financial situation, provide expert advice on managing debt, budgeting, and long-term financial planning, and develop strategies to mitigate financial risks associated with problem gambling.
  • Collaboration with Treatment Providers: Work closely with behavioral health treatment providers to ensure that clients' financial plans are integrated with their recovery goals, promoting a holistic approach to treatment and support.
  • Record-Keeping and Compliance: Maintain detailed records of client sessions, ensuring compliance with both company policies and state regulations, and adhere to the highest standards of confidentiality and professionalism.

Additional Responsibilities

  • External Speaking Engagements: Represent MoneyStack at industry conferences, webinars, and other events to promote financial literacy and awareness of problem gambling, sharing your expertise and contributing to the development of best practices in the field.
  • Financial Education Content Development: Create resources and educational materials for GamFin, our online financial education and support community, to help professionals and clients understand complex financial topics related to gambling addiction and recovery.
  • Client Meetings: Attend meetings with state government administrators and other key stakeholders to discuss client progress, provide feedback, and identify opportunities for collaboration and growth.

Qualifications and Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess a combination of education, experience, and skills that demonstrate your expertise in financial counseling and planning. Specifically, you will need:

  • AFC® Accreditation or CFP® Certification: A professional designation in financial counseling and/or planning, with at least 1000 experience hours to obtain the designation.
  • Professional Work Experience: At least 3 years of experience in a related field, with a proven track record of delivering financial counseling and planning services to individuals and families.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in office productivity tools, such as Google Workspace, Zoom, and Slack, and the ability to learn new technologies and systems quickly.
  • Remote Work Experience: Experience working independently and as part of a remote team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a strong ability to self-motivate and manage your time effectively.
