Job Overview

We are seeking a results-driven Regional Account Executive to promote Walgreens’ specialty pharmacy services to targeted physicians, nurses, discharge planners, case managers within complex disease states such as Oncology, Organ Transplant, Fertility, and Pulmonary. This role requires a strong and diverse skillset to drive success, including business planning, account management, and influence and impact. As a Regional Account Executive, you will identify growth opportunities within small and large group practices, hospitals, and health systems, and include internal and external stakeholders as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Business Planning: Develop and execute effective business plans to achieve and exceed quarterly sales goals, with a strong understanding of complex disease state markets and future trends and opportunities.
  • Business Acumen: Demonstrate expertise in maintaining in-depth knowledge of highly complex market dynamics, including payer issues, state and government regulations, provider payment issues, drug launches, and more.
  • Account Management: Coordinate care and sell Walgreens services throughout hospital systems, IDNs, and provider groups/networks, developing short- and long-range business plans to achieve growth expectations.
  • Influence and Impact: Deliver persuasive messages and presentations that drive desired action, anticipating objectives and issues, and working proactively to address them.
  • Leadership: Lead cross-functional teams without authority, mentor and train new Account Managers, and participate in special projects.
  • Business Partnering: Leverage resources within Walgreens to address customer issues and expand local business, assisting the Regional Sales Director in development and implementation of team communication and promotional activities.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor’s degree and at least 7 years of pharmaceutical sales or healthcare sales experience, including time spent in a specialty role or selling medical equipment/devices, or a High School Diploma/GED and at least 10 years of pharmaceutical or healthcare sales experience.
  • Experience with advanced selling skills, promoting complex products or services in larger group practice or institutional environments.
  • Expert knowledge of complex disease states and the delivery system within the specialty pharmacy and payer segments.
  • Experience analyzing and reporting sales data to identify issues, trends, or exceptions and drive improvement of results.
  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Excel and experience with disease states.
  • At least 2 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace and direct leadership, indirect leadership, and/or cross-functional team leadership.
  • Willingness to travel at least 75% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred candidates will have:

  • At least 5 years of experience selling Specialty products or services in one or more of the following disease state groups: Transplant, Oncology/Fertility/MS, IG, Bleeding Disorder, Specialty Pulmonary.
  • Business-to-business experience in a medical setting and/or managed care experience working with medical offices, provider groups, or IDNs and hospital systems.
  • Transplant-specific experience working with transplant centers and referral sources in a high-touch sales/service model.
  • Oncology/Fertility/MS-specific experience with buy and bill practices, reimbursement, and billing issues within oncology medical practices.
  • Specialty Pulmonary-specific experience working with specialty pulmonary disease states such as Cystic Fibrosis, Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, or Pulmonary Hypertension.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong sense of self-motivation and discipline.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and mentor new Account Managers.
