Job Overview

The Director of Data Science position is a senior leadership role that will spearhead the development and implementation of blithequark's global data strategy, working closely with cross-functional teams to drive business outcomes through data-driven decision making. The successful candidate will have a strong background in advanced analytics, data science, and risk finance, with a proven track record of leading high-performing teams and delivering complex projects in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic analysis of blithequark credit metrics, credit provision, and reserve for Senior Management in Risk and Finance, providing actionable insights and recommendations to inform business decisions
  • Own and manage specific data assets/packages within Risk Finance, becoming a subject matter expert in the applicable tools and technologies, and driving adoption across the organization
  • Develop and maintain standard and ad-hoc reports used by Risk Finance and/or business partners, providing credit-related analytical support and ensuring data quality and integrity
  • Develop and present key analyses and recommendations to Senior Management, leveraging advanced analytics and data visualization techniques to communicate complex ideas and insights
  • Build and maintain relationships across Risk Finance portfolio groups and with partners in Risk, Controllership, Tech, and other functions, fostering a culture of collaboration and data-driven decision making
  • Provide decision-support with a strong emphasis on developing analytics that identify trends and opportunities in the portfolio, enabling optimized business and risk decisions

Required Qualifications

To be successful in this role, candidates must possess the following qualifications:

  • Advanced experience working with a majority of the following technologies: SQL/Hive, Power BI/Tableau, Python/R, VBA, TM1
  • Experience working with a sophisticated level of Excel and PowerPoint, with strong data visualization and presentation skills
  • Experience in ML modeling is a plus, with a strong understanding of machine learning concepts and techniques
  • Solid financial and analytical skills, with the ability to work with large datasets and draw meaningful conclusions, empowering business partners to make informed, data-driven decisions
  • Superior attention to detail, alongside exemplary organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and work within tight timelines
  • Must be results-driven and proactive, with a strong work ethic and excellent interpersonal skills, showcasing the ability to build and maintain relationships and collaborate effectively with team members to achieve goals
  • Master's degree in advanced mathematics or statistical discipline required, with a strong academic foundation in quantitative analysis and data science

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a risk finance or related field, with a strong understanding of credit risk management and regulatory requirements
  • Knowledge of cloud-based data platforms and technologies, such as AWS or Azure, with experience in data warehousing and ETL processes
  • Experience with agile project management methodologies, such as Scrum or Kanban, with a strong understanding of iterative development and continuous improvement
  • Strong business acumen, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and drive business outcomes through data-driven decision making
