Founded in 2000, Insulet’s mission has always been to empower individuals with simple, discreet, and reliable technology that liberates them from the constraints of traditional insulin delivery. With a portfolio that now spans 24 countries, a cutting‑edge automated manufacturing campus in Acton, Massachusetts, and a relentless focus on innovation, Insulet continues to set the pace for the industry.

Our growth story is powered by people who are as bold and forward‑thinking as the products they create. In the past seven years, we have posted double‑digit revenue growth, doubled our intellectual‑property holdings, and earned recognition as a Top Workplace USA and a Great Place to Work® across multiple global locations. As we expand our product ecosystem, we need a seasoned, strategic, and collaborative leader to shepherd the sustainment of our Type 2 medical‑device products throughout their lifecycle.

Why This Role Matters

The Remote Senior Product Manager – Global Medical Device Lifecycle & Sustainment will own the end‑to‑end stewardship of existing medical‑device offerings, ensuring they continue to meet evolving market demands, regulatory frameworks, and customer expectations. This is more than a maintenance position; it is a strategic stewardship role that balances innovation, compliance, profitability, and patient safety. The successful candidate will influence cross‑functional teams across continents, champion best‑in‑class sunset processes, and help shape the future roadmap for Insulet’s global product franchise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lifecycle Governance: Direct the full lifecycle of Type 2 medical‑device products, from post‑launch sustainment to strategic sunsetting, ensuring alignment with market needs and regulatory obligations.
  • Strategic Sustainment Planning: Craft and execute multi‑year sustainment strategies that include product updates, feature enhancements, cost‑optimization initiatives, and post‑market support plans.
  • Sunset Management: Lead the disciplined phase‑out of legacy products, coordinating transition plans, customer communication, and inventory control to minimize disruption.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Partner with Program Management, Life‑Cycle Engineering, Quality, Post‑Market Surveillance, Regulatory Affairs, Manufacturing, Sales, and Marketing to resolve product issues and drive continuous improvement.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Maintain vigilance over FDA, CE, and other global regulations, ensuring all product documentation, labeling, and submissions remain current and compliant.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as market share, reliability metrics, and adverse event trends; translate insights into actionable improvement plans.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Transfer: Own the creation, maintenance, and dissemination of comprehensive product specifications, user manuals, technical files, and sunset playbooks.
  • Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate product‑related risks, developing contingency plans and escalation pathways.
  • Business Case Development: Build robust financial models and business cases to justify sustainment investments, feature upgrades, and end‑of‑life decisions.
  • Product Messaging & Enablement: Collaborate with Product Marketing Managers to shape compelling global messaging, and provide sales enablement training and tools.
  • Process Improvement: Co‑lead the establishment of standardized product management processes, best practices, and governance frameworks across the product portfolio.
  • Strategic Planning Contribution: Participate in franchise roadmap development, aligning sustainment initiatives with overarching enterprise strategies and market opportunities.

Decision‑Making Authority

  • Authorize sustainment roadmaps, feature releases, and product updates within defined budgetary and regulatory limits.
  • Lead cross‑functional decision‑making for product phase‑out timelines, ensuring alignment with executive leadership and customer commitments.
  • Approve changes to technical documentation, labeling, and regulatory submissions, working closely with the Regulatory Affairs team.
  • Influence portfolio prioritization by presenting data‑driven recommendations to senior leadership.

Essential Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Life Sciences, Business, or a related discipline; an advanced degree (MBA, MPH, or equivalent) is a strong advantage.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 + years of global product management experience, with at least 3 years dedicated to product sustainment in the medical‑device or regulated healthcare industry.
  • Regulatory Acumen: Demonstrated knowledge of FDA, MDR, ISO 13485, and other international medical‑device regulations.
  • Project Management: Proven ability to lead complex, multi‑disciplinary projects from concept through execution, using tools such as Agile, Stage‑Gate, or PRINCE2 methodologies.
  • Analytical Rigor: Strong quantitative skills, including the ability to develop financial models, cost‑benefit analyses, and risk assessments.
  • Communication Excellence: Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, capable of influencing senior executives, regulators, and global teams.

Preferred (But Not Required) Attributes

  • Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., PMP, Six Sigma Black Belt, RAC).
  • Experience with implantable or wearable medical devices beyond insulin delivery systems.
  • Track record of leading successful product sunsets in a regulated environment.
  • Prior exposure to global market launches and post‑market surveillance across diverse geographies.
  • Fluency in a second language (e.g., Spanish, French, German) to support international collaborations.

Core Skills and Competencies for Success

  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to see the big picture while diving into details, aligning product sustainment with corporate vision.
  • Leadership Without Direct Authority: Skillful at motivating cross‑functional teams, resolving conflicts, and building consensus.
  • Customer‑Centric Mindset: Deep empathy for end‑users, translating feedback into product improvements that enhance safety and usability.
  • Problem‑Solving: Proactive identification of issues and creative development of mitigation strategies.
  • Integrity & Ethics: Unwavering commitment to compliance, patient safety, and ethical business practices.
