- Develop and teach dance routines that align with CSUB Athletics branding.
 - Provide individual and group coaching to improve technical skills, stamina, and performance readiness.
 - Communicate established expectations for conduct, attendance, and sportsmanship consistent with university policies and team values.
 - Observe and monitor the physical and mental well-being of student-athletes, referring to appropriate support services when needed.
 - Coordinate logistics for performances at athletic events, university functions, and community appearances.
 
- Conduct tryouts and select team members based on skill, attitude, and commitment.
 - Maintain rosters, track academic eligibility, and support students' academic progress in coordination with athletics academic services.
 - Promote leadership, teamwork, and personal development among team members through mentoring and team-building activities.
 - Communicate and enforce adherence to team and university codes of conduct.
 - Oversee the use and care of team uniforms and equipment.
 
- Act as a liaison between the Spirit Dance Team and Athletics, Student Involvement, and campus events committees to ensure representation and engagement.
 - Participate in outreach activities, community service, and youth clinics that align with the university's engagement mission.
 - Maintain records of participation, injuries, waivers, and related compliance documentation.
 
- Regular and reliable attendance is required.
 - Proficiency in a range of dance styles (e.g., jazz, hip hop, pom) with the ability to create original, engaging routines for performances.
 - Ability to teach, motivate, and guide student-athletes of varying skill levels in a team environment.
 - Awareness of safe practice methods, warm-ups, and physical conditioning to reduce risk of injury.
 - Capable of coordinating practices, performances, and event appearances while managing limited practice time and fluctuating schedules.
 - Familiarity with university policies, FERPA, Title IX, and basic compliance expectations for student-athlete activities.
 - Committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, and maintaining a team culture that is welcoming and supportive.
 - Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism.
 - Ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems.
 - Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere in the University with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds.
 - Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner.
 - Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
 - Ability to interpret, communicate and apply policies and procedures.
 - Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
 - Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines.
 - Excellent computer skills and competence with a variety of computer applications including word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, on-line systems, Internet as well as online calendaring and email.
 - Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University infrastructure.
 - Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
 - Must be able to work overtime, occasional holidays and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.
 
- Bachelor's degree in Dance, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Performing Arts, or a related field.
 - Prior experience coaching or instructing a collegiate, high school, or competitive dance team.
 - Demonstrated experience choreographing routines for public performances, competitions, or athletic events.
 - Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment possessing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude.
