Job Overview:
As a Senior Civil Engineer leads the planning, design, and execution of civil engineering projects across the Oil & Gas and Renewable Energy sectors. This role is responsible for developing high-quality engineering deliverables—including grading, drainage, hydrologic analysis, roadway, and utility designs—and supporting the production of construction plan sets and technical reports.
Working closely with surveyors, GIS analysts, permitting specialists, and project managers, the Senior Civil Engineer ensures all design work aligns with client objectives, regulatory standards, and commitment to technical excellence. This position requires a hands-on approach to engineering problem-solving, project coordination, and quality control throughout the full project lifecycle.
Essential Job Responsibilities:

- Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead the civil design of industrial and energy-related infrastructure projects in the Oil & Gas and Renewable Energy sectors.
- Perform detailed engineering calculations and develop accurate drawings for grading, stormwater, roadway, and utility systems.
- Conduct hydraulic and hydrologic (H&H) modeling and design for drainage infrastructure and stormwater management systems; calculate precise earthwork volumes to support construction planning.
- Oversee the production of complete engineering plan sets, technical specifications, and construction documentation in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Integrate GIS data, field-verified information, and public datasets into design exhibits with a high level of precision and attention to detail.
- Prepare drainage reports and perform H&H analyses in accordance with jurisdictional permitting standards and regulatory frameworks.
- Produce complete engineering plan sets, technical specifications, and construction documentation packages in accordance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
- Apply industry-standard engineering principles, practices, and procedures to ensure high-quality deliverables across all phases of design.
- Maintain awareness of evolving regulations relevant to project scopes and client industries.
- Develop clear, comprehensive technical reports and project presentations that support internal reviews, permitting packages, and client communication.
- Apply established engineering principles and internal QA/QC standards to ensure accuracy, consistency, and quality across all deliverables.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including Survey, GIS, Permitting, and Project Management—to ensure cohesive design integration across all project components.
- Research and verify data inputs from internal departments and external agencies to support informed design decisions and regulatory alignment.
- Support mentoring and technical oversight of junior engineers and drafters.
- Required Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited institution.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Colorado, or ability to obtain Colorado licensure immediately upon hire required; must be in good standing with the ability to obtain reciprocity in project states.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive civil engineering experience, including leadership on energy or industrial infrastructure projects.
- Proficiency in UDFCD (Urban Drainage and Flood Control District) hydrologic and hydraulic software, including CUHP, UD-Culvert, UD-Detention, UD-Inlet, and UD Rational.
- Working knowledge of the UDFCD Criteria Manual Volumes 1, 2, and 3.
- Direct experience in the Oil & Gas and Renewable Energy sectors, with a demonstrated ability to deliver civil design solutions tailored to energy infrastructure projects.
- Experience working in and evaluating designs within floodplain areas; knowledge of applicable floodplain regulations at the local, state, and federal levels.
- Comprehensive understanding of civil engineering and land surveying principles, terminology, and best practices.
- Proven ability to design and produce complete civil plan sets, drainage reports, and Stormwater Management Plans (SWMP/SWMPP) in alignment with regulatory standards.
- Strong working knowledge of Drainage, Erosion, and Sediment Control (DESC) and Grading, Erosion, and Sediment Control (GESC) permitting processes.
- Zoning & Regulatory Knowledge – Understanding of zoning regulations and land use codes relevant to project design.
- Proficiency in civil engineering design software including AutoCAD Civil 3D, Hydraflow, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and SWMM5.
- Familiarity with GIS tools and spatial datasets to support design accuracy, regulatory compliance, and exhibit production.
- Data Verification – Ability to compare datasets and follow up with internal departments and government agencies to confirm data accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality documentation and collaborate effectively across disciplines.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality, and code-compliant work with a focus on technology and innovative workflows.

- Big Bonus Points if you Have:
- Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) credential.
- Department of Transportation (DOT) experience, including roadway and intersection design, and knowledge of DOT design criteria and manuals.

A reasonable estimate of the Base Salary for this role is $120,000 - $160,000 per year. The disclosed pay range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. The compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case, such as skills and experience levels.
