Smith III Department of Real Estate Development & Department of Urban Planning and Spatial Analysis Position Description and Qualifications The Wilbur H. Smith III Department of Real Estate Development & Department of Urban Planning and Spatial Analysis in the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy are seeking applicants for a faculty non-tenure track teaching position of design, at the rank of associate or assistant professor (teaching). Candidates should be experienced professionals with expertise in the area of architectural design for real estate development. The successful candidate will teach 6 courses (24-units) at the undergraduate and/or graduate level in architectural design with content focused on fundamental design skills; building typologies; and community design and site planning for various real estate product types. The successful candidate must have significant professional experience in architecture, community design, urban planning, and/or real estate development on an array of commercial real estate projects. Preference is for candidates who hold an advanced degree (such as a Master of Architecture, Master of Planning, or MRED). Candidates without a graduate degree may be considered if they have a minimum of 15 years professional experience and have held a leadership role at a design or development firm engaged in institutional quality projects. Preference given to candidates with prior teaching experience and excellent teaching evaluations. Responsibilities include the delivery of course content, scheduling office hours and being accessible to students as appropriate, and grading. Additionally, the position includes assisting in the creation and grading of the design component of the MRED Comprehensive Exam. Finally, the new Associate or Assistant Professor (Teaching) of Design will work with the Program Directors under the direction of the Department Chairs to provide support in the creation and revision of design course content for the design curricula within the Departments of Real Estate Development and Urban Planning and Spatial Analysis. About the Wilbur H. Smith III Department of Real Estate Development & the Department of Urban Planning and Spatial Analysis The Wilbur H. Smith III Department of Real Estate Development offers the Bachelor of Science, Real Estate Development, a combined Bachelor of Science, Real Estate Finance and Development (with the Marshall School of Business), and the Master of Real Estate Development. The department has nine full-time faculty and professional adjunct faculty who are hired given their unique professional expertise to bring their experiences into the classroom to teach a curriculum that trains students in the fundamentals of real estate. The Department of Urban and Spatial Analysis offers the Master of Urban Planning, Executive Master of Urban Planning, and a Bachelor of Science, Urban Planning & Spatial Analysis. With 15 full-time faculty and professional adjunct faculty, the department is committed to training leaders who build a better, more socially just world. The annual base salary range for this position (9-months) is $110,000 - $135,000.
