About the position
Responsibilities
• Audit and manage approximately 25% of the Forms I-9 and E-Verify verifications completed each year.
• Complete approximately 10,000 E-Verify verifications for all university hires each year.
• Monitor work authorization expiration dates and determine continued employment eligibility.
• Audit Forms I-9 for proper completion and compliance with federal and state laws/regulations.
• Provide guidance and ongoing consultation to I-9 preparers and others responsible for certifying I-9 forms.
• Conduct monthly in-person I-9/E-Verify training sessions.
• Represent the university in cases of internal or external audits or inquiries.
• Ensure compliance with I-9 and E-Verify requirements to prevent unlawful employment practices.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Previous experience completing Forms I-9.
• Knowledge of Form I-9 and E-Verify laws and regulations.
• Strong customer service skills and ability to handle difficult situations professionally.
• Strong organization, time management, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse customer base and staff members at all levels.
• Excellent computer skills, including experience with MS Word, Excel, and HR information systems.
Nice-to-haves
• Prior experience evaluating/auditing Forms I-9 and employment eligibility documentation.
• Experience with electronic I-9 systems (i.e., E-Verify and LawLogix).
• Prior experience in a large, complex higher education or public sector setting.
• Experience compiling and reporting HR Metrics.
• Prior experience making presentations to small and large groups.
